ALWAYS THE SAME

Hebrews 13:8 (NKJV)

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”

Have you ever felt like you were living the same day over, over, and over again? Maybe everything you see, feel, and hear just keeps repeating itself to the point where you know what is going to happen next? How about the people and places that seem like they endlessly recycle themselves in a monotonous daily display?

We all can get into a rut in our lives where we feel we are actually living out one of those movies where the days or the events constantly repeat. We all know life is not a movie and it’s not fun when it happens. The repetition can keep wearing on us until we feel like giving up. But no matter what we think, every day is never exactly the same.

The world around us is a very complicated place with so many moving parts that it is impossible to make that claim. Let’s start with when we first open our eyes in the morning. Our thoughts are most likely not the same ones as the day before. What we see are not the same sights we saw. And even the smells can be different.

I don’t even want to get into the odds that we are facing the same events over again. Even the characters in those movies that I mentioned take different actions until they get it right. If you look at it from that perspective then we may fall back to the excuse, “well the results are always the same.”

Now take a closer look at everything in the world. Start anywhere you want. If you look up from the paper right now what is the first thing you see? I see the items on my desk. Everything in this pile has been there, but I know for a fact that I recently moved some of the pieces. So, what I see can prove that I am not repeating this event no matter how the same it feels.

When we walk outside, we are greeted by any number of sights. Even if you feel the picture outside your front door is the same, it is not. The grass is longer, the dirt patch has a few more scuffs, and no matter what the color, the sky is not the same either.

Let’s pause for a second to just think about color. The world is painted in so many different shades that there are not enough names to describe them all. The leaves on the trees may all look green but are they all the same green and is each leaf the same color every day? Can you say Autumn. Even when the ground is covered in a blanket of snow, there are so many hues of white with the shape of the piles changing minute by minute.

People are part of the natural world but can be adorned by manmade objects. No one’s skin, hair, or nails are exactly the same every day and the changes in our clothing can be endless. Even if we wear the same outfits we will get marks, wrinkles, or stains on it. When we fully move away from the natural, we enter in an entirely new realm of daily encounters with new cracks, smudges, or things that are moved to another location.

This should assure you that everything is not the monotonous stream of repeating events. The micro world that God has created adds another layer to the ever-evolving landscape that is never the same, but in God we do find a consistency that is refreshingly dependable.

As we trudge through whatever we face during the day we can know that the Lord is always there. His love is always there. And as the opening scripture says, it was always the same and will always be the same. This is not another movie or a figment of your mind, it is a truth that we should come to trust.

This was not a new concept brought forth in the time of Jesus. In 1 Chronicles 16:34 (NLT), “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.” This is about 900 years before Christ was even born. We could even find further examples of God’s unchanging love even earlier in the Bible.

These aren’t empty words, they are god’s promise to us. And not just those who believe, but everyone no matter who they are or what we have done. Romans 8:38-39 (NKJV) illustrates this point, “For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Feeling hopeless can place us in that rut where life is dragging on in sameness, but God has other plans. Embrace those plans as you reach out to others in His name. When we share that love we know is there, then the cycle is broken, and we can see the new possibilities in front of us.

We need no other example than in 1 John 4:10, (NLT), “This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.” God did what He stopped Abraham from doing. He demonstrated that He was prepared to do what He asked of us. Showing unconditional love and faithfulness.

So, join me in celebrating that love. Use it to open your eyes to what is new every day and mirror the love that God shows us to the world around us. Don’t let anyone tell you that you are reliving the same day over and over, because as you can see, it is just not true. God’s love for us is the only thing that is always the same.

UNCHANGING LOVE FOR YOU

The days just keep repeating and time feels like it’s dragging on,
I see the same thing in the morning and all day till the sun is gone.

The reoccurring parade of faces or staring at the same four walls,
These scenes just keep repeating and there is no place I can crawl.

I long for something different and to change the view I see,
For anything I would be grateful so from this rut I could be free.

With the shadows growing darker it makes the monotony easier to ignore,
But once the night is fully descended  it and makes it harder to see you Lord.

My child, if you really look closely you’ll find that it is not true,
A day on the surface may seem unchanging but below is something new.

The sky above has different clouds or colors, even the blue is not the same,
Faces you see will rotate with conversations and the time at which they came.

The only restrictions that are occurring are placed inside your mind,
You must break free of this cycle if something new you want to find.

In my Word you’ll find the power to speak life in all that you do,
Fore the only thing that is Unchanging is my Love For You.
