Ecclesiastes 11:7 (NKJV)
“Truly the light is sweet, And it is pleasant for the eyes to behold the sun;”
Have you ever had a chance to sit on the beach in the morning to watch the sun rise? Maybe you are not an early bird and were able to see the same scene later in the morning? How about just being able to walk on the beach and feel the sand squeeze up between your toes?
With these questions we can find ourselves falling into different categories. There are some of us who have been fortunate over the years to have been able to visit a beach near an ocean. Others of us may have been to a manmade beach along a lake or large pond, while some have not had the opportunity for either.
I fall into the first group and do enjoy visiting a beach near the ocean, but we can spend the next five days looking to divide these groups down even further. Those who went once and never want to go back, those who have no desire to go, those who want to move closer, those who go in the water, those who don’t, etc.
No matter which group we fall into, we do have an idea of what we may find at an ocean front beach. Sand, water, waves, seagulls, shells, and so much more, but many of the other things can be found during a peaceful sunrise no matter where you are.
With your eyes closed you can sit and hear the gentle sounds of nature, feel a light breeze touch your cheeks, then a soothing warmth falling across our bodies as the sun rises to touch our skin with its light. If you have never experienced this, you should try to find a place to do so at least once in your lifetime.
Memories such as these can come in handy when we need to recenter our minds and our souls. There may be times chaos has overtaken your thoughts, everyday life has become overwhelming, or your world can feel like it is crashing down upon you. Pause, close your eyes, and regain those peaceful feelings that you had during that peaceful sunrise.
There are those of us who can do this pretty easily, but some will find it difficult to calm their minds and bodies, tune out the world around them, or even just be able to breathe. If I am having trouble, I will begin to speak to myself positive phrases to help the process. And many other times those voices are lifted up in prayer.
I will ask the Lord for peace, I will talk about how I am feeling, and what I am going through. You may not think so, but the Lord wants to hear from us. I remember the sunrise and the peace God created around me. His sun is not just rising on the world as it always does, it is bringing light into the darkness that was there not too long before.
Close your eyes again now, not just remember those feeling, but think about all of God’s creations that are with you. How the sand forms on the beach, the waves as they crash to the shore, and the colors that explode across the horizon are only three of the millions of creations that surround us.
Looking deeper, the sunrise is the beginning of a new day and Lamentations 3:22-23 exemplifies this, “Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.” We need to realize that with the dawning of the day, we are forgiven from anything we may have done any previous day.
It is difficult for humans to grasp this, especially if we lay awake all night worrying over an issue that turns out to be insignificant. We just cannot let go enough to find the Lord’s peace. This is why we need that down time to help focus and center us, with no better place to start at the beginning of a new day.
No matter where you are to watch the sun rise, we can let that morning peace wash over us as in Malachi 4:2 (NLT), “But for you who fear my name, the Sun of Righteousness will rise with healing in his wings. And you will go free, leaping with joy like calves let out to pasture.” Healing to set us free. If you really want to dig further, this has been true ever since the Son has risen. Risen to wash our souls with healing, forgiveness, and new life.
Most scripture you can replace the word sun with Son. Just as in the opening scripture where there is sweet light beholding the Son. By remembering to keep your eyes on Him, His light will illuminate any areas of our lives where the dark shadows want to hide. We need to remember that we should be keeping our eyes on him.
When we do we open our heart to everything He has around us and chances to share His Love and message with others. His light is described slightly different in Luke 1:78-79, “Through the tender mercy of our God, With which the Dayspring from on high has visited us; To give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, To guide our feet into the way of peace.” whether it is us or someone nearby, everyone has the Son light available to them to light their path.
So, join me in recognizing His amazing creations all around us and let the risen sun (SON) shine into every corner of your life. By beginning every day like this we set ourselves up for a day walking with Christ and all the protections and guidance that brings. Close your eyes and picture your happy place with God.
IT’S MY HEART THAT YOU WILL KNOW
From the Sun rising over the ocean to the waves crashing on the beach,
With the salty breeze in the air you can feel that heaven is within reach.
I can close my eyes and just sit still to listen to the peaceful sounds,
With warmth I know without looking the sun broke its horizontal bounds.
Staring at each swell as it approaches and then crashes to the sand,
Then watching it as it slowly retreats leaving a fading print across the land.
In just a few moments I can feel so small in this universe you created,
Lord, why can I not just accept your will instead of it being debated?
Dear child, I know you have the eyes to see and ears for you to hear,
But you need to use them as I would rather than close them off in fear.
You choose to see my beauty around you and know that I am there,
But you turn your eyes from any ugliness and those who could use some care.
You can hear my sounds of nature that are music that brings you peace,
But you don’t listen to the pleads of the hurting wishing they would cease.
My plans always include the good with the bad no matter where you go,
Accept this truth and follow my path it’s my heart that you will know.
